Lulu.com - A remarkable self publishing site!

Bob and I holding up a PMI conference program

The Project Management Institute (PMI) of San Diego held their annual conference on May 15th-16th with the theme of "Projects Under Fire: A Tribute to Risk Management".  One of the keynotes was an unassuming, yet amazing speaker by the name of Bob Young.  For those of you familiar with RedHat, he is their founder and former CEO.  About five years ago, he started a new business venture - lulu.com

Lulu.com is an extraordinary site that allows authors, poets, musicians, and the like to print as little as a single copy of their work, protect their intellectual property, and make a profit!  I had the very good fortune of talking with Bob a few minutes before he spoke and asked him where the name Lulu.com came from.  He said it was a nickname for his daughters, and he bought the domain name many years before the creation of his company.  Years later, he and his colleagues were trying to come up with a simple name for the company that was easy to remember, and they had exhausted all other ideas.  That's when Bob made the suggestion of the name lulu.  At first, it seemed like a silly name for a serious company.  However, upon further investigation, it was discovered that the 1920s definition of lulu was that of a "remarkable idea, person, or thing".  What a perfect fit for this truly innovative site that provides a voice to those looking to publish their original ideas.  Check out Lulu.com to see how you can leverage this cool site with your unique "lulus".
