Quick, easy ways to spruce up your resume
For many of us, updating our resume is a dreadful task. It is not something we do often and, as a result, are not very good at. If you are currently struggling to get a resume together, there are some quick, low-cost ways to make the process just a little bit easier. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Google resumes - Check out Google.com for examples of resumes in your field. If, for example, you work as an account executive for the finance industry, google those words, along with the word “resume”. Experiment with a few combinations to get an idea of how people are presenting themselves in your industry.
- Ask recruiters – Recruiters are a wealth of great information for improving your resume. They see lots of good and bad resumes all day long, always have a pulse on what employers are looking for, and can provide some really good tips and ideas on how to make yours even better (I know – I used to be one!).
- Hire a professional – Getting a second set of eyes on your resume is always beneficial. These days, there are numerous, low-cost companies online you can send your resume to. A professional resume-writer can help you define your objectives, accomplishments, and experience in a way that will stand out.
In addition to the ideas listed above, there are lots of affordable online products you can purchase to help automate the resume writing process. Updating your resume does not have to an awful process. Most importantly, it does not have to be something you do alone. There is a lot of support available, both
online and in the yellow pages. It’s just a matter of reaching out and grabbing it! Best of luck, and happy job hunting!
