The other day, I called a number of friends and associates to let them know about an upcoming training course.  As I got to talking with one of my colleagues, I realized that we had not talked in over a year!  We had only stayed in contact sporadically through email and had lost touch in what had been going on in our lives.  I learned a valuable lesson – that in order to maintain a strong circle of influence, you MUST schedule time every month to pick up the phone and stay in contact with friends and colleagues.  Email doesn’t cut it.  So much is constantly changing in the lives of those around us - If you don’t reach out to ask how people are doing, you will miss out on a lot of opportunities to help one another out.
