10 Ways to Stand Out at Work

Stuck in a rut at work? Don't just sit there...Change it up!
Here are some quick ideas that will recharge your excitement and help you stand out at work.
Pick any couple of ideas that you like, and try them out over the next 30 days.
- Get training on something new
- Take on a new project at work (Read Tom Peter's book "Project50" on ways to make even boring projects WOW!)
- Try to listen more than you talk
- Share a great link or blog article with colleagues
- Go to lunch with someone in a different department
- Take the Strengths Finder 2.0 quiz (www.strengthsfinder.com) and think about ways you can develop your strengths
- Share your knowledge with and help mentor others. Heck, start a mentoring program!
- Start or contribute to a newsletter at work
- Write unsolicited recommendations on LinkedIn for people you have enjoyed working with
- Nominate yourself, your team, or a colleague for an award!


What if the problem is not about standing out? What if someone is a square peg that's not fitting in round hole? What if they have an entrepreneur mindset, not employee? What if...?

If someone has an entrepreneurial mindset and wants to pursue that, I would recommend that they start building their network, skills, and brand now. The earlier the better, long before taking the jump. Also, if you have one customer to help you make the transition, that always helps!
